![]() ![]() Slowly working my way around the outer rim with a knife was the best way I found to remove them. They are not at all easy to remove, and if they are torn up the button presses will be significantly mushier. It seems like the rubber domes are glued onto the plastic, unlike on previous models(?). ![]() (There should be a raised circle of plastic there.) Fold it up so that it's four layers thick and sticky on one side, and stick it onto the part of the button which pushes down on the rubber dome. Tear a small strip of paper from the sticky part of a sticky note, about 2 mm by 8 mm. Removing this one will probably be significantly easier than the outer button gently prying from the back corner should pop it out. Now, the hinges of the middle button will be visible from the front. I found it easiest to remove by prying from the front side, under the red stripe, with a little bit of force. Each outer button hinges from the back side (opposite from the red stripe), and has two plastic hooks on the front side which locks it in. (It looks like at least one of them has to come off before the middle button does). Remove one of the outer TrackPoint buttons from the keyboard. Could be unstuck by mashing the middle button a few times.įix: (instructions for the middle button, but a similar process should work for the outside buttons as well) Symptoms: scrolling with the TrackPoint would occasionally get "stuck" even after releasing the middle button moving the TrackPoint would continue to scroll instead of moving the mouse. The process described below should work for any ThinkPads with the same keyboard as the T42. ![]() ![]() Posting this in case it ever becomes useful to anyone. ![]()
